Missing Gears

I have only ridden my new bike 3 times and I have found that I am missing quite a lot of gears.

Is this down to me or is there a potential problem with my bike.

The gears seem to be further apart than on my Gixxer and therefore I seem to click in-between them, causing false neutrals..

Is this anything to worry about, or do I just need some more practice..

Cheers

Mark

Lloydy,

i've got a 998 and a Gsxr600 race bike, and i have to say that i don't really notice a difference.

Have you got standard footpegs on, or have you gor rearsets , with a dodgy linkage?

Just the standard footpegs at the moment.

I am pretty certain that it is down to me. When I change down, I am not lifting my toes up off the selector, therefore, not letting it return, so when I go to click down again, I cannot..

Looks like I need to practice some more..

Neutrals

Check your chain tension before doing anything drastic.
It does need a positive input to engage correctly so make sure your lever is in the best position for your foot?
This can be altered by lengthening/shortening the connecting rod.

Thanks for the advice.

I wasn't thinking of doing anything drastic. Far too scared to even touch it firmly yet!!

I knew it would be different to ride. If the problems keep occurring after a few more weeks of me getting used to it, then I will start to worry more.

Old yellas right check the chain tension, then try lowering the position of the lever, it means you don't have to move your foot as much to change up, I had the same problems after selling my 2000 blade (and its not like hondas have the best gearboxes either), I found that helped a lot, mind you I still get the odd neutral now and then

Hi Lloydy, good to see another newbie, Ive had my 748 for 3 weeks now and was getting the same as you. I came from a GSXR as well. Now I've been on it a few times (nearly 500 miles) I'm used to it and it doesnt do it any more. Need to give it that extra little bit of kick up.
