Those of you that are lucky enough to have a 996R or 998R(maybe 748R),would one of you(RAY,GUY?))be kind enoug to send me a pic of the side of the fairing where the fuse box is(or the other side),it is where the cut out with the grill mesh is.I am trying to put some on a 998 fairing and need to see if it is tapered to the fairing edge or square(Does this make sense?).E-mail me and i will send a pic!

HAVING SAID THAT......just re-read your post and think mine won't be much good. I have the 2001 model and that has the fairing with the cutouts on the side and hence doesn't have the grills you're after.

I see from the pic's on your site that you've some crash protectors fitted. The reason i mention this is that Pro V Twins said that it's not such a good idea as they could lead to a bent frame for worse in the event of an off. Anybody got any thoughts on this as it dose seem like a good way to save the worse of the damage if droped.

There are two main types of protectors for the Dukes.....

One that mounts on brackets that are basically 'clamps'. These grip around your trellis frame. I wouldn't recommend them cos it's obvious what's gonna happen in an off.

Mine are the stronger type by Cyclecat.

You replace the engine mount bolt that goes straight through the battery box (on the 748/9** models) with a new item that has collars on either end. The 'bungs' then screw onto these collars.

In an off, they aint going anywhere. If they do, the frame would be the last of my concerns. The engine block is the main stress member.

They do work...I tested them at Croft 2 weeks ago. No engine, battery, clutch, or tank damage and very minimal fairing damage.

I only 'plan' to do lowsides. I don't crack the throttle wide open, so highsides will be rare.

Of course if you highside and launch the bike 3-4 feet in the air then again, I think the bungs will be the last of your worries. Dodging the asteroid-like debris would come first.......
