998 Biposto Motor - what cc ?

Jasper and I were just conversing about the above. I must be going mental because i thought the early 998 (bip) motors were 996cc - but the tinternet seems to have other ideas - can anyone clarify ?! Just one of those useless trivia questions really !!

The first tesstastretta was 998cc but in the 996R model - might be where the confusion arose from Nat.

I expect that were heading for more of Ducati`s capacity confusion with the new 1000 + series of engines!

998 BP and S were 998cc's. The 998R was 999cc's

the 999's were 998cc's apart from the R to..........????
