748 Clutch Slave cylinder

More advise needed from all you Knowledgeable people please?

Making the clutch easier on my little "fingies". Do I go out a buy one of those larger slave cylinders or is there one from another Duc that will swap right into place and do the job?
Can I pehaps change the master cylinder instead to do the job?

Didn't want to throw money at a fancy after market part when any standard parts I can come across will do the same job.

hello mate .. all the bikes 748/9** have the same slave cylinder so your only option is a replacement after market one ...

I have the STM one as it was a deal, well, when I say a deal I mean I robbed it from Nelly as it was his last one ....

If i was looking to get one now I'd get the Cornerspeed one ... just call Nelly and he'll sort you out .. my mate had one put on his 748R as he uses it loads in London and he says its a huge improvement over standard ...

you can get a later addition slave cylinder which come up on flea bay from time to time, which will do what you want, normally go for around £60
you can change the master cylinder but these are big bucks £200 ish (bling) IMO

Thanks Keefer. Ive seen these Norton ones but they aften end up going for as much as £80 plus the postage.

Your comment about the later ones:

Are the later ones larger then?

How do I identify them from the earlier ones?

the bottom link is the later one.
if you look at the pic you can see a star sort of shape in it,
the older version don't have this

I bought some titanium wheel nuts which were fine,
it gives you an idea of what's around though even if you don't use him

As far as I'm aware the later type ducati cylinders are no larger a piston as the early ones. They have an improved seal design that stops them leaking. They will probably feel better due to you rebleeding the whole system after fitting one but technically if the piston is no bigger, it won't be any lighter. I've replaced a few of these on 749/999 S4R etc. with my own cylinders and the STM ones and then they've been light.
There are 3 stock cylinder designs out there. The early ones are plain faced, the second ones had the Ducati "roundel" cast in the face and the latest are the ones in Keefy's link with the 12 point "torx" type cap front.
I believe the changes were around improved seals etc. to stop the leaking the earlier ones suffered as soon as they saw fresh air.............
I have more STM units in stock as well as my own. Both are £100. The latest STM are a little more than Dibbles "steal" but still a lot less than their £165 rrp......................
