Yank coming to UK/Europe

Hello all, I'm an american with a 98 ST2 coming abroad to the UK for may-sept. I'd like to have a bike to ride around during this time, but shipping from the western US is hideously expensive.

I'm looking to buy something and then sell it back at the end of my trip, but have been running into some hurdles. Folks at ducati.ms thought announcing myself here would be helpful.

Here's what i'm looking for, ~600cc+ bike, preferably with some sort of luggage for about £2000-2500 I'm not really picky as for who made the thing i have a few kawasakis and yamahas myself.

I am also unaware of the insurance situation in the UK and whether or not i'll be able to get a UK based insurer to cover me, any light shed on the situation would be very helpful.

Hi and welcome to the board
For that sort of money you should be able to find a well serviced ST2 with paniers and still have change.

As for insurance it may be worth trying the people I use and see what they can offer

Hello, nice to know we were recommended from Ducati.ms

I wonder if bike hire might be an option for you?

I looked at a few London based website shops but their hire rates were very high.

One reasonable one I found with a couple of Dukes:

http://www.superbikerental.co.uk/

and some very reasonable rates with fully loaded tour bikes but I believe Manchester based:

Hope it works out for you - Good luck

Frank

ps - for something REALLY different, how about:

Hi and welcome to the board.
I am selling my 2001 ST4S if you are interested-had it from new, 34,000, new tyres, chain and sprockets, full luggage including 52 ltr top box. I can't ride it this year as I have just had surgery on my left wrist-and I have a new Ducati on order for next year..............
I am looking for offers around £3,000.

And a sensible recommendation it was, the more sites covered the better the chances of a result

For insurance go to http://quotes.thebikeinsurer.co.uk - their online quote system allows you to say that you have a foreign licence, but I've never tried it to see what it does to the quote!!

I lived in AZ for 6 years and shipped a bike back here through Long Beach, so I feel your pain!!

Thanks for all the replies!

Monty--
Sorry to hear about your surgery, but the bike would break my budget, thank you for the offer though.

YMFB--

I'm going to see a friend in lancaster, right by the ferry. I'm also bringing a tent, hopefully i can make it happen.
