The race disks are cast stainless steel, which is what's on my bike. I use the Bendix carbon matrix pads with great results. Highly recommended, better than cast iron rotors. Cast iron used to be the top choice for discs and was used extensively in racing. Now, the cast stainless Brembos have replaced them. Still, if you need a set of new cast iron Brembos, I know Tim at MotoDesigns got a set on the shelf, 01904 623 421.

Some Brembo cast iron brake rotors may still be available. The Ducati Performance catalog lists rotors for the 1995 900SSSP that came with cast iron rotors. People that ordered them got Brembo cast iron rotors. The packaging says it’s for the 900SSSP and 916 Senna.

This may be a good time to look at reducing the rotor weight to improve handling.

Stock 916 (Round holes) ... 4 lb 3.5 oz
996 (Snowflake) ........……... 3 lb 11.0 oz
998R Narrow Track ....……... 3 lb 1.0 oz
BrakeTech Ductile ...……...... 2 lb 15.0 oz
AXIS Rotors .........………….... 3 lb ± 2 oz
Galfer Wave .......………........ 2 lb 7.0 oz

The lightweight AXIS Full Floating Ductile Iron Rotors from MotoWheels look tasty…

Hey, or how about this?

They do list it for the 748/9xx bikes! Only 850 Euros for the complete kit including OZ wheel, if I understand it correctly. I wonder how good this really is. Wouldn't they use it in racing if it were any good? I come standard on the new Buells. Wouldn't mind test riding one.

I've been looking over the rim brake kit to.
There's about a 1.5kg weight saving to boot as well, and it's unsprung?
Where have you seen them for 850 euros? Best I've seen is about £1100

Yeah, they're ace! I use them on my RS, although they are the narrow band, which are used with the monoblock calipers. Don't know if they fit a street bike. I run them with Bendix carbon matrix pads and radial pump. Can't improve on that, as far as I know.

I have Brembo SS Disks and Radial Calipers . . .

check out the avatar thingy - the stopping power is AWESOME!

Anyway - have standard sintered pads (rec by Brembo UK) - done at least 12,000 (reasonably fast) road miles on these disks - no scoring/marking at all - amazing.

Not even any wear - did the measurements at the weekend - no wear at all in fact!

At this rate - will last me a lifetime - unless of course they make Carbon disks for road use (to go with the rest of the bike of course)!

KJ

By the way - PFM are crap - stick with Brembo if you can - not sure about other makes - but have tried the rest - now back with the acknowledged BEST!
