Changing timing belts on 748

This question has most likely been asked numerous times but is it really that hard for a novice mechanic to change there own timing belts and do you need any special tools ?

PS - Do stainless steel clutch springs make any difference to stock steel ones ?

Obviously, stainless springs are more attractive with an open clutch cover. The problem is (often) that making the same size coil from stainless material gives a slightly different spring stiffness - so you may need to use a slightly different height clutch plate stack to get the same preload.
