Try these guys:

A-plan insurance 01793 868888

They specialise in commercials, I pay £500 a year fully comp for a brand new transporter doing 60K a year, so I would have thought they could do better than that for you?

Try insuring it for private use only rather than possibly let them assume it's for commercial use. Limited mileage etc.

Would it be cheaper to rent a van when you need it, a rented van would also include the insurance.

Actually, that's not at all a stupid idea . . . .

I am about to renew my Van insurance this week with the Co-oP Insurance services (CIS) for less than £200 and its insured for the transporting of motorbikes
0845 600 2918 is the number for renewals, may be the same for new policies as well

I insured my van through these guys - they were WAY cheaper than any mainstream policy.
