Bigger engine

Hi guys,

I was wondering what's the biggest / best /most reliable D2 engine that I can fit to my Sorn'd 600 carby Monster (not the DD bike, the other one).

I love the 600 but being able to enjoy it on the track with the DD bike, I find it slightly boring on the road.

I'm looking for an engine that would fit without too much hassle too.

Cheers,

Froggy.

Tonio,

I think that you will find that a 900 will go straight in, but not certain about the exhaust system, 75bhp should make it quite interesting.

Hi Tonio
As Chris says a 900 will go in without any problems, and the exhausts are the same size. and also the carbs and Ignitors can be used

I have just fitted the last of the Carb'd 750 engines into a 600 Monster, but for this conversion I had to drill out two engine mounting holes from 10mm to 12mm and then I tapped the holes on the opposite side to M12 X 1.25mm

No reason a 900 or 750 injection engine and running gear couldn't be used, or even a later 800 or 1000 but expect to pay a bit for the running gear as clocks and ECUs are coded on these later bikes.

I may have a 900 engine and a 750SSie engine and running gear for sale in the not to distant future

Cheers guys. I reckon 900 will be the way to go.

Kev, I might well be interested in your 900 engine if and when you part with it. Would you me ltting me know in case I miss your ad for it?

Is there any difference between injected and carbed 900 engines or just the fuel intake changed?

probably a difference in the flywheel and ignition pickup but its not something I have looked into, also the issue of single and 3-phase alternators and associated Rectifier/regulator

Hi Phil,

Yes, this is exactly what I want to build. I love Cafe Racers and the Monster must be a good base for one.

Unfortunately no, it's not this year again that I will try that race. However I will be on the start line for the Leith Hill half. Are you running it again next year? It's on the 7th of March.

I certainly will be doing the Leith Hill Half ! Its one of the best hill runs around here.
I'm running a 9 miler near worthing on sunday - my first race for 4 months cos of achilles tendonosis.
Then its the Cracker possibly followed by the G3 races as training for Leith Hill, unless you can recommend some other 10-20k races ?

If you fit a 900 lump you'll develop a silly grin you know

Are you sure about the exhaust sizes? I know the 600 and 750 downpipes are the same part number (at least on the SS), but they look awfully restrictive for a 900.
