Anybody any ideas how much a 2002 998S biposto should cost.
Im looking at something at the moment thats in Japan, it has 5600Km on the clock.
What exhaust system should this have, a full or half 50mm system?
Anybody imported a bike frm Japan before?
How much will it cost me to get it UK plate registered?

Why go to all the hasle of importing a bike from Japan when you van pick up a 998 in the uk for a reasonable price?

The pipes on the Biposto (ithink0 are slightly smaller than those on the S model and of course produces lesspower, 123 as oposed to 136 of the S model,
There are many 998s Biposto`s around but the mono is quite a rare beast as only 27 where officially imported!

How does £4100, all import costs\taxes paid grab you?
Yo cant buy one for anywhere near that price in the UK.
Dealers want about nine grand for a 2002 998S....
It even has Termi's fitted.

I imported my ST2 from Australia at start of 02, and it costed bugger all to get registered here. All I had to do was get an MOT, tax it and register it, all up about 200 quid. At that point there was no specific requirements for additional vehicle certification that applied to bikes, but I understand they were looking at changing the rules. When I talked to Ducati UK they were suggesting I had to change the speedo and a couple of other bits to get it to UK spec, but the local bike shop that did the MOT had no problems passing it as it was. It seems the rules changed in last year.

Edited to say: if you do need help with sorting out how much import duties, VAT etc would be, I have a mate who does this (ie provides this sort of advice) for a living. Obviously you'd need to sort out a fee with him, but U2U me if you need contact details.

Can i just establish the difference between the 998 Bip, the 998s bip and the 998s mono. These three will cost different prices progressively with the mono s being the most rare.

praps a bit different coz this is europe but...watch the imort tax...
this guy was told by the derbi dealer in spain (I think) that paying the tax in the country where you bought it and an additional export tax for european purchases was all he needed to do. He purchased the bike, brought it through customs who said the paperwork was sound but upon registering the bike for it's UK plate he was sent a bill for £500 from customs for import tax. the UK is dead dodgy when it comes to importing goods from other countries and it excludes itself from said taxes to add it's own...Just be careful!
the guy ended up paying more for his little bike than the Uk dealers RRP!

Be carfull Dazza! type approval power ristrictions etc etc
i recently did an R1 (yam) for a chap in leicester who could not get it to go very well!! some shops had being lookin at it but they had no joy either!
it took me over a week to sort it having looked all over for restrictors
guess what it was (CAMS ) PROFILES WERE flater than my x missus tits !!!!
power was ltd to 100bhp
all sorted now !!

i live in germany at the oment and for me to bring bac a bike to the uk from the EU it must have a "Certificate of Conformity"
otherwise it must have a SVA test not an MOT , on the SVA test (Single Vehicle Approval Scheme ) they will pick it up for incorect lights (if the E numbers dont correspond with the uk regs) and possibly the exhaust system wont meet uk requiments and tyres n stuff from the EU is not normaly an issue but as i imported a car from Japan it was a pain in the As#s seat belts lights all have a E number in a small circle and if the number isnt applicable to the uk, problems could arise!!!!!
