Engine modifications / what have you had done ?

What modifications are you chaps fitting to your Ducati's ?

What would you recommend for others new to Ducati's ?

What is the most cost effective modification ?

Thanks

A.

A set of pipes is compulsory!!!I've got a JHP air filter & a slipper clutch, but the list of possible mods is endless!! It all depends on how big your wallet is!!

Mods so far (not much really):

carbon 45mm termi's
carbon hugger/chain guard
carbon exhaust shield
tinted double bubble screen (really works well)

Looking to carbon-ise the following in due course:

front sprocket cover
clutch cover
heel plates

Termi's were the best thing I've ever done. To anything. Ever.

Ade.

I'm having a larger clutch slave unit fitted - a claimed 20% reduction in lever effort which will be good for me poor arthiritic hands..

Get your suspension set up properly is IMHO the first and best mod.

Dave Parkinson at SP racing is in Southport and Andy White at KAIS in Atherton is only 20 miles away. Both come highly reccommended.

Its not always neccessary to respring or revalve, just decent setup.

My SPS came set up really wierd, set up for a 7 stone rider rather than a 17 stone fat git and was transformed with an hours work.

Also Dukes tend to be overgeared and its a very common mod to lower the gearing.

Gearing and suspension mods are cheap and easy before you start on the Ducati disease of spending lots of wonga.

After that its the obligatory Termis and a FIM chip to improve the fuelling.

Oops nearly forgot, get brake and clutch levers set at right angle and helibars improved riding position for me, what i'm trying to say is get the riding position as comfortable as possible so you can relax and concentrate on riding.

THEN SPEND LOADS OF MONEY

On my 2000 748S:

50mm Carbon Termigs with DP Half Race Chip - setup properly!
Remove mesh from air intakes for better air flow
Pipercross MPX038 OEM-Style replacement air filters - 18 quid a pair
Pro V-Twins Slipper (ramp & bearing) - about to be replaced with an STM Evo 48T slipper
14/40 gearing on quick release TSS sprocket - need 96 link chain for this
Suspension setup on Snetterton trackday by Ohlins suspension - worth doing as I didn't know if the bike was setup to standard or not and it feels better now
Sparco rearsets (exact copies of DP ones for half the price) for maximum adjustability
Taken pins out of bars to adjust position of brake and clutch - really worth doing (costs nothing!) and very scary when you reach for the brake first time and it's not where it used to be!
Tinted high-screen from Busters - only 38 quid and really good while on the move if you're lanky like me!

Other than that the rest is just tarting it up with carbon

termi's, downgearing, and slipper are all obligatory if you go on track at all imho.
getting the bike set up correctly for you too, be it suspension tweaks, lever positions, or footpegs.
after that any carbon/ titanium bits really only for looks but obviously shave a few gramms too.
havnt got any myself yet but lighter wheels aslo make a huge difference so im told.

I have a MY 2000 996 with the following:

54mm Sil Motor Carbon pipes
FIM chip setup by Neil Spalding of Sigma Performance along with the full grunter spec found here
14 tooth front sprocket
Lightened flywheel
Lever placement after the removal of the pin (SOOO much better)
Carbon tarty bits (front mudguard, swingarm protector, heel plates, hugger with chainguard)

Next is suspension and then California Superbike School ... then a slipper .... (depending on plans being concocted ..)
