Digital SLR Help

Can anyone help I need to buy a digital SLR for my son, we have been looking at the following cameras

Canon EOS 1000D
Nikon D60
Sony Alpha A300

They are all around the similar price, but I have no idea which would be the best buy, any help would be appreciated before I splash the cash

Cannon or Nikon would be the ones to go for as second hand or alternative lens's / accessories are more available.

I bought a Olympus which is a very good camera but later found out that options are either limited and or expensive

I use a Canon 1Ds MkII and Canon 20D's as back ups. They've never failed. There's a good range of lens and accessories, with good servicing.

Although I use Canon, Nikon are also great cameras. I would say, see if you can have a go with both, then pick the one that 'You' prefer.

I'm happy to answer any questions on Canon gear.
