got this from a guy in the US who claims he got it from the dealer meeting in the US.

FW: 1098 SPECS
To All...

Sorry for any delays in answering. My mailbox is FULL and I answer every PM. Also have been gone this weekend.

This is Ducati proprietary dealer info, NOT rumor or speculation! Straight from the 08/24/06 dealer meeting... I saw the packet with pics and specs!

Have paper pics only; none in jpg, etc. to post. Source wanted me to see them, but not post them. I will try to get some in an uploadable format.

All models have a 1099cc engine, but are designated 1098 (for fear of association with the IRS 1099 tax form - REALLY!).

Three Models-
$14,995 - 1098 Base: 160hp/80+tq
$19,995 - 1098S: adds carbon bits and Ohlins suspension pieces
$24,995 - 1098 Tri-Colore: adds race exhaust in the crate, red/white/green three-color paint
(Pricing is preliminary and may change slightly)

Styling somewhat similar to Desmosedici RR, but with longer, sharper front fairing and featuring dual headlights; New dash design; Single-sided swingarm; Dual oval underseat exhaust; Weight reduction of 37.5 pounds; Monoblock radial-caliper brakes w/330mm discs.

All 1098 models will come configurable as mono and biposto. Base model outperforms 999R!!

Ducati will NOT campaign the new bike for the coming AMA season; instead skipping a year for potential rule changes.

Official debut will be at Milan in November, with deliveries expected to begin in February.

My 1098S is pre-ordered with deposit. Ducati will NOT guarantee all orders, because of demand vs. supply issues on NEW production model. Get it locked in early if you want one.

No info on the 749 replacement. I was WAY to excited about the 1098 specs, and forgot to even ask. Hope to have news soon, but will NOT post rumors.

G

Surely not?!? How can it outclass the world beating, sales sensation that was the 999R?!?!

Actually, it sounds pretty good and if it's like the 'sedici then I might have to postpone the Aston Martin for another year...

Blimey Sharpy, you and 900 Man seem to have the same source (read his earlier post). The US dealers seem to have much looser tongues than our counterparts here in the UK. Read yesterdays MCN and it made me laugh as they were touting the spy pics of the new 999 and the artists sketch as their own "exclusive" pics. I am so fed up with them taking the credit for everything. These pictures have been on the net now for well over a month and the pictures of the bike circling Mugello were courtesy of Italian bike magazine "Motosprint" (NOT YOU MCN!) who first published them well over five weeks ago. Wake up MCN !!! You are so far off the ball game sometiimes its a joke. If you want to take credit for anything then take it for printing **** and nothing else.

Sharpy, any chance you could scan in the paper pics and post them or PM them to people on request? Pppplease!

I have no doubt the 1098 will be a winner so long as it comes in YELLOW (surely the lads at Ducati cannot dump another ugly bike on the market aka 999), but I await good news re another ugly bike that needs some creative work - the Sports Tourer. The Japo ST3 is not a patch on the "older and superior" ST4s (and even that has a bland front end). Come on Ducati give us a world class design for Sports Tourers and an engine better than that fitted to my YELLOW ST4s.

Re the Aston - I cancelled my DB9 when I saw the Rapide at the Geneva Show last year - simply on the grounds that now I have a daughter I need a "proper" 4 seater...............and the Rapide is poetry in motion (hopefully if AM actually produce it) (Dipstick Ford Permitting)

Whoops almost forgot:
The future is bright but it ain't orange - it's JCB YELLOW - yep Mr Bamford has told Ford that he is very interested in buying Jaguar. Now I personally think that Anthony Bamford would do for Jaguar what Johnny Bloor has done for Triumph - rebuild a great British Company (Dipstick Ford Permitting)
