the trouble with magnesium is that it will always try to revert back to its orinal state,if you get so much as a pinprick in it air will oxidize under it and cause a loss of adhesion (like paint flaking off). The only way to do a proper job on it is to have it re-chromated. Butch

Chromate IS a painted finish. Trust me, I re-chromated enough stuff while I was in the RAF. It's sprayed on like paint, and as you say, chips off like paint. There are various sources to obtain the stuff, just stick chromate into google and see what comes up.
