Angry Leccy vehicles, the future’s bright or will they plunge the UK into the dark?

I thought it was about time for my ad hoc Friday rant to return.

There looks to be a good few electric only vehicles on the way in the next few years, the Govt are subsidising the purchase price as well.

My number 1 question with the growth of the use of leccy vehicles is where is the electric gonna come from? Specifically the extra capacity in the UK network to cope with this growth. Will the UK’s current (see what I did there ) national grid cope with the increasing demand.

The last few winters have seen the papers full of stories of the lights in the UK going out as generating capacity is just not keeping pace with demand. It takes years to build a power station be it coal, gas, nuclear or hydro.

So where is all the leccy going to come from to power all these leccy cars that could be on our roads in the next few years?

Hmmm just to add to that after watching the electric bikes that were with us on a couple of the DD rounds last year I really truely belived they were the future. But after reading a write up in the comic MCN about false claim in that it uses more precious and limited materials to make the battery than is does to wang a gallon of fuel out of the ground and thats before like you say Ray you start re charging it on the right.

I think Leccy vehicles are the future as the alternatives are limited. The question is Distant Future or Near Future

Battery powered vehicles have been out for decades now but development has been accelerating over the last few years.

Fossil fuels aren't going to last for ever and they are becoming harder to get out of the earth and have there own dramas doing so.

Having worked with radiation for 30 years of my life I'm all for nuclear power, I would prefer Fusion power but the JET project at Culham has been going for decades and progress is very very slow, so it looks like it will have to be Fission reactors.
A major step in battery density has been going on over the last 6 months so the next generation of electric vehicles should be able to go faster or travel futher.
KTMs Freeride concept bike could well be launched later this year

And if Leccy vehicles do take over from petrol and diesel vehicles where is the chancellor going to get his tax revenue from
