How about SP3 without the black on the fairing sides and no numbers?

hey, jasper, i had my seat unit re white boarded and cleared as i just couldn't live with the #1's on it. mine looks heaps better with plain boards, and as i'm pretty hopeless, i don't get my mates laughing at me.
p.s, if you're gonna have #1's on it, at least use the proper ones, or put a correct racer era # on it. eg 4=fogarty or 9= falappa for 1993.
cheers,
paul

Hi,
i like the number ones on the seat unit, unfortunately they are the ones that it came with(sic) and the only real diffrence is that that they are thinner. As they are laquered in,it is a real pain (££££!!) to get them changed. At present,i have other things i want to do with the bike than spend money on adding 1" to the width of a number one.It will happen eventually though!!

I have decided to keep my options open. I will have the panels sprayed and laquered with the minimum number of decals, as in the simple 1992 851 scheme I posted. I can add extenal stickers as I feel it needs. I also have a spare single seat unit. I may get that sprayed with a white number board. 4 screws and the look is completely changed.

As usual, thanks for all the input and views, biased or otherwise

Rgds, Rob

Rob

I used to have a '92 851 with white frame, black and white 888 decals and a c/f single seat with number 1 as lacquered c/f weave. It sure looked better than the SP5 stickered tailpece.
The bike looked great, but I got fed up with people asking is it an SP whatever?
I then bought what I really wanted, an SP5 - but along with the looks, you get the suspension, motor etc etc.
It surprises me that a lot of guys on this board chuck so much at their regular bikes when they could probably go out and buy a pukka bike in the first place
If I were you I'd paint it in the '92 851 colours with a plain red tail. You'll get none of the annoying questions, the bike will look spartan and tough, and best of all it will be predominantly red, which is the only colour which looks any good on an 851/888 (and you wont have to lick Nat's rim for decals, so it will be cheap!!).
Yellow and black both look pants, silver is pretty good.
People only have different coloured Dukes these days because they are so common and people like to be different.
Remember the 851/888 is a rare sight still - keep it red.
Regards
Justin

Justin,

Yep, agree, and that's just what the painter is doing.

jasper, instead of re-spraying the seat unit why not just stick the correct (and wider) No 1's over the top - that should appeal to your penny pinching...
