Carbon headlight fairing!

Greetings all!

I want to replace the headlight fairing on my 998s Mono with a carbon fibre one and have it sprayed up red with a white number board, any comments to make, fitment, painter etc would be welcome.

When I was in Casoli the guy told me that the fairing isnt all carbon, its layered over the fibreglass where its going to show through, and they just spray the fibreglass bits!

Weeksy - i just had a "cruise" around ebay a moment ago - the only one i saw was a standard red one,few marks on it,for £150 (starting bid).

The carbon one, painted with number boards is £295 i think from Casoli.

I know which id get.........

Maybe but your basically paying for a GRP top fairing with a bit of carbon laid up over parts of it, for about 175 you can get a carbon one from qbcarbon, + 160 for the paint job = £335, and its ALL carbon!

Actually thinking about it,ithink Mikes at Rip Products (member on here) are a bit less than £175 and im sure his painting with number boards was £100.
Its getting cheaper................

Ducati's carbon is made from pre-preg carbon as opposed to wet-lay, which is the same method used with GRP. Pre-preg is stronger and lighter, but also more expensive. Ducati used to use MS in the Eastern Block somewhere to manufacture the stuff for them, I believe. The MS symbol always was on the inside of their panels. Recently, I heard the switched suppliers, not that it really matters.

The other pre-preg manufacturer is CarboTech in Austria. They manufactured the Audi Le Mans car chassis, entirely from carbon fibre. I think JHP sells their stuff in this country. The also made a carbon frame for the 916 some years ago! Have a look here:
