Oil Leak?

Text
Hi ,
I have an 2001 M750 Dark (Carb) and sometimes after a run and leaving the bike I find oil on top of the crankcase and even down the sidestand.
The oil level hasn't changed and it isn't all the time. amate of mine with a M600 has the same problem.
Is this bad or normal. Like I said the level hasn't changed and it is normally only a very small amount.
Appreciate any thoughts on this.

Pincher.

Hi mate

could it be a breather problem ?

The oil down the side stand could it actualy be chain lube ?

Or it could be rear cylender base gasket leaking !

If your oil level does not drop much don't worry to much about it.

Ding! Most common issue.

Clean the area very well with some degreaser. Dry completely, spray the back cylinder/case joint with spray on deodorant (the kind that gets all powdery is best), run bike and look for wet spot in powdery residue. Viola! You have located your leak.

Hi

If the cyclinder base gasket is leaking I would check the security of the cyclinder bolts and studs its unusual for these to leak unlesss something has changed.

I remember many moons ago having a 900SL wth a similar problem and it was the Oil pressure switch the oil was runing up inside the cable insulation and dripping out under the tank onto the crank cases (strange but true lol).

I like the idea of Ducman851's thats what I would do after all there are really only a few places the oil will come from.

Regards
