ST4S engine transplant for 888
Hi there,

hoping for some advice on what is required to replace my '92 888 strada engine with ST4S engine, apart from the engine!

Do I need the ecu/wiring, throttle bodies/injectors? Is the engine a straight forward bolt-in-place job?

Thanks, AA

It's pretty straight forward. Need to bore the frame to take 12mm bolts. M12x1.75m tap

I got a 996 engine loom, throttle bodies and 1.6m ecu. The connector on the 888 bodies is the same but they are wired different. This can be alterered by making a new throttle body loom but it's easier to get on off a 1.6m bike.

The nutral light is wired the other way around so that needs a little mod.

The altenator id 3 phase; you'll need to junk yours and get a new 3 phase version. That'll come with different connectors, so it's a good time to modify that unrelaible bit of the chassis loom too.

Can't think of anything else, no coffee yet, but feel free to ask away.

Rgds, Rob

Some pics attached too.

Hi Rob, Thanks for the info. There is a 2001 ST4S being offered by Bikenders, the complete bike with fire damage to RHS/battery area, £1900. If I was a bit nearer, I'd have a look at it, but I think this time I'll just try a replacement gearbox and go down the transplant route IF the engine goes bang again.
