Seat and airbox rubbing

On my 748s the seat unit is rubbing on the airbox and appears not to be in allignment, can the position be adjusted so it doesn't rub?

The seat unit was replaced by my dealer after an off early on in the year,

take a look at the pic the white marks are clearly visible.

It's possible to move the seat back and forth a little by moving the catch pin, where it locks on the rear subframe. If you need a little more movement you can also use washers on the front hing mounting to move that back and forth. If you want to go forward, which I don't think you do, take out the stock, thick alloy washer and put in a couple of conventional thinner washers.

Thanks Nelly.

It does need to go back and up, but a bit late now as the paint is marked on both sides of the airbox nad moving it now will make it more visible

Might ask my dealer about it at the next service as it has always looked out of allignment with the airbox, it has only done 3400 miles so a bit poor for paint to be rubbing off

Me too!

Lee,
Mines exactly the same on my 996. The seat unit rubs in quite the same way as yours, on my carbon airbox, because the sides of the airbox seem to stick out slightly.....

Bloody annoying, and quite disconcerting when the seat unit kind of crunches in to place when I sit on it.

Have you got a good solution yet? I've tried moving the seat unit a bit, but I think that it needs to go back a bit more....

Let me know how you get on with yours,

Mark.

Hi Mark,

My airbox is standard and the sides seem in alignment looking from above but,

Looking from the side on mine the contours of the bodywork do not line up with the airbox, so the seat unit is to far forwards and down.

Maybe the blocks under the seat pad need to be raised a bit to make it higher, not sure how to adjust it backwards. Mine also creaks when sat upon, and I'm only 11.5 stone

Going for the 6000 mile service in Nov. so will ask then, if they do move it back the white parts wear the paint has worn away will be more visible though
