Hi all,
I'm considering fitting a set of PFM Supersport upgrade discs, to go with my new 4 pad 996R type callipers. They look the part, cast iron rotors, fully floating and £175 a piece from Demon Tweeks.
Anyone got any experience of them, and/or know where to buy them cheaper??(!)

There has been quite a bit of discussion about the longevity of PFM discs. At least KJ had them warp very quickly. I seem to remember other posters not recommending them. Do a search.

PFM are rubbish - sure they look okay - but in terms of reliability - I would be very cautious and the aftercare is!!!

i've just started using PFM discs along with the PFM 6 pot calipers, as i have stated in another thread, i was told to bed them in carefully to avoid warping, probably people are not doing this and find their having problems.

I originally only wanted the discs, but the ones i ordered would'nt fit, i managed to get hold of the main man at PFM who said i had been sent the right ones. Then he realised they were wrong and made me an offer of giving me a complete kit (discs,calipers,hoses,pads) in exchange for my set up. I now have a new brake set up on my bike. There was no extra cost for the kit, he even sent it the same day and said to wait for it to turn up before sending my stuff to him, that is excellent service. Paul Mercer thankyou .

I have got the PFM superbike conversion on my track bike. Narrow band fully floating discs, 6 pots calipers and a Brembo GP Master Cyl. I run Carbon Bendix pads.

I have had no problem with those and I am very happy with the power and the feel under braking. I had an issue with the bolts fixing the discs to the wheel not sinking in the carriers (unlike brembos) and getting in the way of the speedo drive and after a phone call, PFM sent me some button head bolts that would fit for free. The calipers are also very light which can only be good for unsprung weight.

On the other hand I did hear some bad comments on the discs from KJ and others so may be I was just lucky (or not fast enough to warp them).
Brembo set up is a top alternative but costs arms and legs and more.
AP set up seems to be really good as well but 50% more expensive than PFM.

Anyway, if you want to improve your braking on a budget, start by getting a Brembo GP Master Cyl (£175 from Tecmoto) + Banjo Pressure Switch for the lights (£20) + Fully floating cast iron discs from Brembo (about £200 second hand).
Doesn't look as cool but it is what racers use if they can't afford the full thing!!
