I've just had the 500mile service. Denver Garage do mine and said that a 6000miler should cost about 250 Quid. They change the belts, oil, filters, etc, along with the usual checks. The valves are checked, re-shimming costs extra as does replacement of the rocker arms which often need replacing if the bikes had a hard time.
They also recommend changing the oil and filter every 3000miles between services with fully synthetic oil. They used 10/50W Putoline Syntec 4+ or something like that.

Really? 6k miles is a belt tension, not change as far as I am aware. As the belts will cost approx £80 (might be more now) I doubt you'd get away with £250 with that.

As Ducati dealerships are all going to be charging the same hourly rate, you will (probably) find that the 6k will cost you about £450 and the 12k (which includes the belt change) about £550. Give or take. It's a 10 hour service, which at £35 an hour is £350 labour, plus oil and filter, plus petrol filter and o-ring.

Of course, I'm happy to be corrected on any of the above.

Doesn't the service book detail what should be done?

The belts need changing at 12k miles or 2 years, whatever comes first.
Ducati used to list the service shedules in the handbook but now you can find it in the service coupon/warrenty book.

I assumed it was the very rare "749er" ... a prototype "ecconomy race" version.

Sorry - best I can do this time of the morning.

Think R models 749/999 get a belt service at 6K and the service is quite costly, the 749R is the most expensive to service of the current Ducati range... there was a thread a good year ago about this very subject

You just talked me out of upgrading to the R, Jon!

I've never seen a 749R in yellow, was that ever an option? Just going by the bike in the Avatar of course.
