Assen in May - ferry booking, vans, cars - or roadbikes!
Hi,

I've just been speaking to a very dear friend, who could assist those of us who are travelling over under our own steam, and not taking up the kind offer of the bikes being transported by big truck.

Here is the deal:

If 10 or more of us get together, he can make a block 'freight' booking to go over from Dover on Thurs 4th May early morning, return Sun night.
For this, we need:
Van OR car size: Height & length.
AND: How many people.
Note: As freight, you wont have to queue with holiday traffic/punters, and will also have a good brekkie to get! (unlike holiday makers restaurant)

Now, an added thing: he has contacts for a B&B 15 mins drive from the track, costing approx 35euros or so per night, with great eating place out front (chinese) and reasonably secure bike parking (see next item too!)

He also offers a second deal:

if 10 people want to go by bike, he will make it a 'trip' and be back-up vehicle & carry stuff (as he usually does, kind man). This now might be of interest, particularly as the WDW has been postponed for 2006.

Anyone wanting 'in', or want more info - can they post below, so Mav can work this one out?

If not enough numbers by boxing day, then I'll do my own booking.

C

Dover to either Calais or Dunkerque.
Depart on 8am (ish) ferry on Thurs, and return late ferry Sun nite OR if agreed between all, Monday mid am.

Its a good 4 & a half hours drive, when we have crossed, and thats with no traffic hassle or fuel stops

Interested in getting together
So, copy & paste on:

Team Knight: F. Ducato MWB Van & 3 people
Eric the Red: Sprinter (size) van & 4 people
Psychlist: car & trailer & ?? people

I don't know which way to do it to be honest. For me it's a long drive to Dover or Hull and then the drive onwards. I need to take two bikes and kids and not sure if it will be van or car and trailer. I'll try and have a think later but i'm off xmas shopping again in a min.

Any advice gladly appreciated on this matter

if its any help, can come to us the nite before Lin.
Dover is about 1 & a half - 2 hours (more like 2 if towing)

Looking like 14 hours of fuel for us, for the round trip

Even Harwich is going to be a hike for you too!
