I think it will fit the frame, the problem that you will have to do some modding to fit the 748 exhaust, maybe the airbox and so on.

I thought the 748 swing arm has bigger bearings in the crankcases?

Thats what I meant.
Are the 749 bearings in the crankase therefore the 748 swing arm would not fit?

The 749/999 bearings are in the swinging arm like the 748/9**, so that isn't a problem.
The engine mounting bolts are larger on the 749, but that just means that the engine mount holes in the frame need drilling out (+2mm I think).
The inlet side will be the bigger issue as the 749 frame has a diagonal cross brace. I cut the original brace out of my frame and had a diagonal one welded in. This means that you can use the bottom the the 749 airbox which mounts the TB's and shower injectors. You will need to cut out the bottom of your airbox and join the two together. If you have a "kayalami" frame then you might be able to use a 998 airbox and TB's (but good luck finding them). You might need a custom chip for your 1.6M as I think there is a difference in the TPS (one is linear and one isn't - can't remember which is which)
The 749 uses stick coils, but your 1.6m won't like them so you need to use your 748 coils. If you change the cross brace then you can mount them on the side frame rails like a 998.
