I thought it was about time for my ad hoc Friday rant to return.
There looks to be a good few electric only vehicles on the way in the next few years, the Govt are subsidising the purchase price as well.
My number 1 question with the growth of the use of leccy vehicles is where is the electric gonna come from? Specifically the extra capacity in the UK network to cope with this growth. Will the UK’s current (see what I did there
) national grid cope with the increasing demand.
The last few winters have seen the papers full of stories of the lights in the UK going out as generating capacity is just not keeping pace with demand. It takes years to build a power station be it coal, gas, nuclear or hydro.
So where is all the leccy going to come from to power all these leccy cars that could be on our roads in the next few years?
