how worried should I be about a furry engine?

Hi guys and girls,

Looking to get my first monster and seeing some S2Rs. There's a few at good prices, but they've not had as much TLC as I'd give a monster. The result is flaking engine paint, rusting connectors etc on the engine and forks. Is this just cosmetic and mechanically everything should be fine assuming a good service history? The engine runs well, no knocking and belts have been done reasonably regularly. Would a bit of elbow grease get her back to being presentable?

Thanks in advance for your advice

Matt
