The foggy rep is a dressed up 996SPS which was limited to 200 bikes. Foggy reportedly got £1000 of the sale price for each one to boost his earnings in 1999. The 996R is often thought of as the best of the gendre as it has the 998 testastretta engine, was hand built by Corse and it won a world championship for Troy Bayliss.

Octo you need to understand the giant steps forward made by the 998 testastretta engine. Do a search on 996 flaky rockers........

Foggy Rep was a standard 996 SPS 1998 with the following differences
Frame had a lower cross over tube below airbox for homologation for race bikes to fit larger airbox-no effect on road version.
Gloss Black Marchesini Alloy 5 spokes wheels
Nose fairing with white number board already painted
Tank had Moto Cinelli, Ducati Perf and Foggy signature decals laquered in.
Seat base was in carbon fibre
Silencers were Termignoni Titanium with carbon sleeves
Screen had a black bit at the bottom for the foggy eyes decal
Tecnosel foam seat
Fairing uppers had Ducati Perf decals only
Red Mirrors
Carbon Swing arm guard fitted
Foggy Bike cover
And the decal kit supplied seperately
There were actually 202 bikes produced-the extras were one for Foggy and one for Hoss Elm of Moto Cinelli

No, your not paying attention are you!

996r same engine (ish, t/i con rods) as 999s 136hp (998cc)

998R is 999cc same engine as a 999R bigger bore shorter stroke.

Lets do it this way.
If i was in a position of a cash buyer and had 10000-12000

then.....

1) a 996sps on a y plate say £8000 with ohlins and a few bits

2) a 996r on y/51 plate. In tip top condition £11,- 12000. Get a bargain a bit tatty for £9000.... poss good investment good bike.

3) I suspect £10000 gets you an 04 999s new. Good bike, 2 years of warranty but old spec and will lose £2000 depreciation.

4) 998R as good as it gets, but possibly £14000 for a good one, although you may not lose too much money.

Re. the SPS, the 98 & 99 models have showa forks, the last year 2000 models were the only ones with Ohlins forks.

Same spec engine in all 3 model years, but i believe that there are a few mods between the 996S engine and the SPS engines, i.e Titanium rods in the SPS but not the 996S (although Ducati qouted the same horsepower).

Only 80 year 2000 SPS's imported into the UK. comes complete with number headstock, cover, stand and 2 sets of termi's.

(must declare a vested interest here as i'm selling my SPS)

Andyb's price guide is pretty close to the mark, although i would value the 996SPS round about the same as the 998R
