748- 916 Engine Upgrade

Please help! I have recently destroyed my 748 engine, which i wanted to replace with a 916 engine. I have now brought the engine minus the ECU. Is this going to cause a problem? I am running on the 16M ECU. Can i just replace the Chip? Is there any other 'bits' i need to be aware of! Thanks

Yep just swap the chip & away you go.

Have you got the 50mm 916 throttle bodies, best if you have but will run Ok with the 748 44mm ones.

Have you got the oil cooler?

Is your 748 an early single phase genny or later 3 phase? If single phase genny it will plug straight into rectifier, if it's the later one you will need to modify connectors.

Mood: Found a CR250. Let the bone braking begin
mart has covered most of it.
the hardest thing will be getting the swing arm pivot bolt out.
other than that just fit it all up and see what you got.
come back when you get stuck. good luck

The tirck to getting the swinging arm pivot bolt is to free it up before you strip the bike down. I made up a draw bolt assembly out of 8mm studding & sockets but the bolt wouldn't shift until the engine was up to temperature. This advice is no use at all if your engine is totally dead.

The other thing you may have a problem with is engine bolt size if you have a later model 748.

Mmm, managed to get the swing arm pivot bolt out 'Eventually'!!!! The engine is now fitted with the 916 throttle bodies, but had to keep the oil cooler with a minor alteration to the fittings. It is now being fitted with a new chip and run on a dyno to get it all smooth and back to where it should be, so fingers crossed. Thanks for all the help guys.
