Header Pipe compatibility

Calling on the expertise of some of you.
I am getting a set of 50mm downpipes for my 916. I have seen a set coming off a 2002 748R. Do you know if they would fit??

I know that the 998 wouldn't and that the 748R has a modified intake similar to the 998. But what about the exhaust?
Is is the same standard as the long stroke engines or is it on the same design as the Testatretta?

Please let me know
Cheers

Mood: Is 112 dB loud enough?? What??
According to the part diagram, it should bolt straight on.

Don't do it!!!!!!!!!!!!!

....if you want more mid-range/power, that is. I have dyno charts to prove my 916 performed better with a 45mm system than 50mm.

If you just want it for looks/pose-value then great, but otherwise you'd be better off spending your cash on something that will give you a genuine benefit (like some lovely OZ wheels, for instance - only joking).

Hope that helps

But surely if you have the right chip (made specifically for your set up) you should improve performance with a full 50mm without even requiring an ECU modificaition.

From all I heard it is indeed not recommended going for more than 50mm on the 916 but up to 50mm should be the right stuff. I may keep the 45mm to 50mm set up that I have at the moment as well.

Anybody's got experience on that? And may be a recommendation for the right chip??
Note: the 916 is a BP not SP ... and may well become a 955 one day...

Thanks for the wheels Leslie. Still thinking about those but picked up some monobloc Brembos and left a bit skint at the moment.

Cheers

They should fit fine......

I think you're right about 50mm system improving power on a 748 too, but if Leslie has different figures?

But then again, if youre looking for a bigger bore engine at some stage, you'll need that 50mm for breathing!!!

Just for those who were left puzzled by the same question that I asked, I have had confirmation from a race-tuner specialist that the pipes of a 748R will indeed fit and that a full 50mm is the sweetest thing on a 916. Just needs the right chip and the right fuelling. He also confirmed that a full 54mm would give more top end but would be detrimental to the rideability at lower revs.

998 Addict. Could you post your dyno charts as that would be really interesting. I was also told that 45mm is the best set-up on a 916BP(Probably different on 996 and SP variants). I think the moto one link shows the same thing. Did consider going 50mm on mine but the cost for a little more noise did'nt justify it. Bought a motorcrosser instead. That's worth doing....
