Age996 has it right, don`t go down the butt ugly route, stick with the 998.

This is maybe in the wrong section???!! Post it up in the 749/999 section and you'll get a different response.

Maybe try the Ducati idle chat section???

I'm sure the 749/999 is better in some areas but a Ducati is bought as much to look at as to ride.

Ray.

If you want something new and easy to ride, buy a fireblade.

If you want something sexy, iconic and very rewarding get a 996/8

You're just annoyed because you've realised you made a mistake when you sold yours!

year right, mine was a R reg 916 with 107 bhp. would i swap it back? would i bollox. to be fair the 998R is a great bike and has pretty much the same engine as mine but with more kudos. just depends if you like the looks/ridability. i liked the 'fresh' look of the 999 from day one; unlike many; and dont think i would ever change back.

Tried a 999 before buying my 996R. I was really disappointed, a real shame. It sounded like a Jap 4, the build quality was iffy. It looked and still looks unfinished rather than challenging. The rear end is just a mess. The side wings are of no practical use. If they were I guess at least one other bike in this world would use a similar system. For me it is no more comfortable. Spares cost a fortune.
In 2005, they still don't have it right but are too stubborn to admit it. Such a shame, it would not take a huge effort to sort it
8R.

I guess the same principle in miniature form on the Aprilia. On the Duc I think the only reason for the wings is to give the impression of aggression as the front wheel looks to be pushed into the fairing. Mmmm form over function = crap anyway. Agree Weeksy.

Steve,

It's a very personal choice mate, and a bit like comparing windows (999) and DOS (998)

Cheers!

I'm a big fan of analogies but you have lost me on that one, never thought of software as a thing of beauty and if either the 998 or the 999 crashed as often as Billy Gates' stuff the hospitals would be full in minutes!!!

Everytime this topic comes up the opposite camps see the others opnion as some sort of offront to their personal taste and Judgement!!!

FFS I've got a 96 CBR6 in the garage, but so what, I like it!! I really don't care if anyone else thinks it's ugly, slow, doesn't handle etc , etc.

Ray.
