Called M & S and they virtually called me a liar for suggesting the deal at £7100, the sales guy said it was impossible and it must have been a demo bike or promotion from Ducati, when I asked him what he could supply one for and he wanted me to ring eveyone else first then he would try and match it. maybe I will, doubt it.

Been calling round today to get a deal on one of these and i am amazed at how many dealers just didnt call me back. called 8 dealers this morning, only 3 calls back so far. They just dont seem keen to do me a deal. started with my local ones (Hants, Dorset) and then the ducati stores, have had calls back from motorapido, ducati leeds and M&S. the others just havent bothered, some i called didnt even seem like they wanted my number.

My favorite response so far is this...

me .. "hi, i'm looking to buy a 749bp, 2005, new, and want to know your best price please?"

dealer ... "i cant give you the best price over the phone because the sales manager will fire me, but if i can take a deposit from you now to show you are serious i will explain the deal when you pick your bike up"

does anyone ever do this???? madness!

getting a bit frustrated and it seems that the deals dont vary much between dealers. So far, the deal at the start of this thread looks like the best one. ducati coventry and bristol have the same bikes advertised but haven't call back yet.

sorry to go on, but this is a big purchase for me, not a rich man and its the most i can just about stretch to, I really dont want to buy a new bike only to be told i've just been ripped off.

Makes you wonder why they're folding in the first place!

Barnsey, I completely agree with you mate, its a lot of money to be spending on a 'toy', so make sure you get the deal you want.

Barnsey,

For what it costs to transport a bike in the UK i would seriously consider giving the boys at Ducati Glasgow a phone.

0141 333 4998

Ask to speak to Rab or drop Berto a u2u on the here (Same person) he is one of the salesman at Glasgow and will do what he can for you.

Transport would be around 1-200 notes.

They are spot on guys, just make sure Berto remembers the keys for the bike if you buy one

No affiliation with Duke Glasgow at all but a bunch of genuine guys who will do what they can for you.

Regards

ScottyB

Hi Scotty,

Waiting for ducati glasgow to call me back, not expecting much though, i called them about 3 months ago when i was looking for some termis for my s4 and still waiting for the call for that!

also, i would be a bit worried that if i had any problems i would have to go to another dealer to get it sorted out, and in my experience, dealers look after there own customers first, quite right i supose!

thanks for the tip though.

really dont want to start a good dealer / bad dealer debate, sure its been done before.

think i'll take the weekend to go and see a few and buy from whoever i get the best feel from.

if they (any dealer, that is) cant be bothered to call me back to get the sale, how keen will they be to fix my bike when it goes wrong???

the search for good price, package, service and back up continues....

Pro twins have an 05 model (registered dec 04 54 reg ) 1900 miles, for £6495, so you could get it for £6000 at this time of year with no p/ex.

Good buy for this sort of money and a lot of the depreciation has already been lost by someone else.

Riders Bridgwater Somerset have a 749S 05 model new on Autotrader for £7499. Think it must be a 749 ( NOT S ) for this price

Well folks, just been reading through todays posts and came across this thread.

For the avoidance of doubt, the 749 bip, grey frame and 05 swingarm is a full UK bike backed up with 2 year warranty and all the trimmings. As twinfan suggests, these machines utilised spare stock of grey chassis. They are exactly the same bikes, just a different colour chassis.

Barnsey I will most humbly, publicly apologise for my staff not calling you back. Very sorry mate, I try to ensure that this doesn't happen but i'm sure it happens more than i'm aware!!
I will correct that as soon as i'm finished typing this reply. Also check your u2u.

As to the Termi situation, again sorry for that. We should have called you to keep you up to date, even just to tell you we have none in. As I have seen elsewhere on this site, the supply of Termis (for all ranges) has been......shall we say, a bit lacking this year.
All the dealers are feeling it, there is very little they / we can do. I know for a fact the factory is aware of the problem and is working very hard to supply all back order items ASAP

I will have a chat with the staff about this just to sharpen up our response times. It's the human element, we make mistakes like everyone, phone numbers get lost, staff get side-tracked and omit to return to the issue. Not excuses, just a possible explanation.

Again, SORRY!

As to looking after our own customers, well that's a bit of a no-brainer! As you rightly say, of course all the dealers do. Developing a relationship with your local dealer will always benefit you! It's not the cost of the bike, it's the whole cost of the ownership experience.

But I hasten to add, We look after anyone with a Duc. Sounds cheesy but we are a specialist centre that has a customer base from Glasgow to as far as Australia, St Kitts and Japan! No BULL!

Your local dealer should look after you no matter what the issue but it's very much in the hands of that dealer and their own attitude to the whole thing. There is no rules on this one. That variable will change dealer to dealer. A quick chat with them will give you a good idea of the response you'll get.

I'll go now, knackered typing this!!!

i will just add that a good dealer will look after all their customers, just becuase you did not buy your current bike from them, does not mean you will not buy the next one there.

obviously if you are a regular customer, you may get an even better service, and maybe a cup of tea
