Its easy enough to add change of colour on log book (via DVLA). I have just looked at 2 redundant seat unit mono and biposto
First is a originally red (factory original) resprayed black and is showing white plastic where the termis have rubbed 3 mm gauges into the plastic.
Second a yellow mono is also showing white (not primer) where it is distressed. These are late panels 2002 and 2003 maybe in different panels or earlier models they were red plastic
I am not saying keefer is incorrect maybe they do make red plastic panels and respray them yellow but not in my experience

Maybe keefers is right, because I think a 1a is factory yellow.
But none of my yellow panels are showing any hint of red, maybe I need a lump hammer and chisel

Mood: Found a CR250. Let the bone braking begin
I would say that its original yellow. underneath certainly.
if you go back and look at the picture of the yellow 748SP I put up, all the broken parts reveal red all the way though the plastic especially on the top fairing.
perhaps now they do make them in a different colour.
I have been unfortunate enough to see quite a few broken panels and they have all been red all the way through

I bought a 748BP new from OYB in 1999 and it wore through red in exactly the same place under the seat unit...

Paul need the seat number

From the evidence so far, I conclude that Ducati used to re spray red panels yellow (cheapskates) but not on the later bikes, well not on my yellow 998s panels anyway.
Or maybe they did it at the end of production runs (as quoted by a Ducati dealer to me), remember they were often cash strapped and used to cobble bikes together.
And Paul you are probably none the wiser. If you find out more from this saga let me know because I’m confused now

i cant seem to find the number on the seat ???????

and my reg is S407

sorry

the panels all look ducati done it would seem odd that the previous owner would spend X amount on respraying the whole bike and have to get the tank done it would be more to just get new panels

Your nose cone is 1A which is a factory unpainted should be a BB for yellow.
From what I can see Ducati only supplied a unpainted seat for the 748 Bi posto in that year (should end in 3A), so I think all your panels are factory unpainted.

Mood: Bloo and Yellow.. and Red now ;)
It's very normal. Don't worry about it. The panels are moulded with a red "resin". The paint is then applied to finish the panel.
Even black ones are red underneath..............
