Monster S4R v Aprilia Tuono

Hi,

This is my first post in this forum, and I hope you can help...

A friend of mine is thinking about buying an Aprilia Tuono (not the Racing version), to replace his GSX-R600. I have also suggested to him perhaps joining the ranks of the Ducatisti with a Monster S4R.

I (and of course he) would be interested to hear your opinions on both bikes please? Which is better (naturally I expect a rush of "Ducati, Ducati"!!) and what experiences can anyone offer up please?

Would be mainly for use on the road, but with the odd track day thrown in.

Thanks folks,

Ade.

Your mate wont go far wrong with either. I ride an s4r but have also riden the Tuono and thought that was great as well. I just felt the Dook to be generally more chuck-aboutable, because of it being smaller. Not much differance in performance but the dook would be alot better for the track due to the better set up.

S4R and I'm not biased because I have one
I did try a Aprilia Tuono but found the seat height of the S4R more comfortable and the Tuono felt a little more top heavy to me. Both are good bikes best thing to do is get a test ride on both as everybody's different

Again another s4r owner so dont expect anything too contructive

The Aprilias a good bike dynamically..but IMO its looks are a bit challenging..and (depending on how tall your mate is)..its physically a big bike to chuck about.

The acid test is..park up an S4R and a tuono next to each other in a car park and see which one gets the looks from passers by !!!!

With all the troubles aprillia have been having recently...it also doesnt to appear to have done the resale values much good lately either..so if hes in the market for 2nd hand..that may be a deal clincher ??

Cheers
Nat

I've not ridden a Monster, but the Tuono was just the biggest giggle I have ever had on a bike. On the gas, the wheel goes up ...... great !!!!

Don't know if anybody else saw Bikefile on Men & Motors this week but they did a test of the Aprillia Tuono, Kwak Z1000, MV Brutalle, TNT and S4R.
Tuono won and the S4R came last

Out of that lot, I'd have put the TNT first on performance - what a machine!

Obviously then my M1000, which isnt on their list:P

TNT was laking in comfort, MV was too expensive. They liked the Aprillia and the Kwak the best, ah well Aprillia must have paid the bar tab and Kawasaki paid for lunch

I think my mate's choices are now between the Tuono and the KTM Superduke, I think I prefer the KTM, we'll check them out at NEC. So I've not managed to bring in another DSC member!

Cheers for the replies guys.

Ade.
