Broadband Speed question, advise required again.
My upgrade from 2m to 4.5mg has been completed today, but to be honest, I can't really see any big improvement.
most apps still running and downloading at the same sort of speed, the dsc webpage takes ages to load.
Reconfiged all my kit etc, but it seem like a waste of time.
What decent programs can be recommended to test and check the network speed reaching my router, also other info on bandwidth traffic etc.
any help gratefully recieved
cheers

thanks guys, tried both, but they show widely varing bandwidth.
Fastest I seem to be getting is approx 1meg, way short of 4.5meg I should be getting.
I think a more indepth investigation is needed here.
cheers

I am on 2meg ,but during peak times i lose a bit , so test off peak for the ultimate fastest speed but you might not get that 24/7

What is your contention ratio ?

I should be on 25:1
It looks like they have reduced me instead of upgrading me.

I learn't yet another life lesson this morning, Never, never never, ever, ever belief anything that you are told from BT.
My supposed bandwidth uprade , which was active from yesterday(not), did not happen, suprise, surprise.
Not only did it not happen, some wombat in BT broadband never complete my order from two weeks ago, so it never got procceded.
What a total waste of time and effot to be honest.
This is the 3rd time this year they have total c***ed up my orders, some one in the orders dept needs a big foot up there a*** putting it midly.
So if you need broadband, don't go to BT, if you do, or are allready with them, make sure you get everything on paper from them, with dates , the names of people dealing with the order, and signed in blood.
end of ran't for half an hour, till I get back on the blower to them to give them another ear bending.
It's got to be done I afraid.

Cheers

I'm with Eclipse (who've gone downhill massively) but I hear lots of good things about Zen Internet. They also get top marks on the adslguide site for most things. 20gb/month for £25 or 40Gb for £35. Thinking of moving there in the near future....

Hi Guys, I just done a test and I'm getting on average 270kbs on a Tiscali 2MB connection?

Whats the best plan of action? Ditch Tiscali (have our own domain anyway) and go for something like NTL (as we have cable right outside) or upgrade / try another BT line provider??

Andy
