916 only reving to 7k

ive picked up a 916 thats not been used for a while.

she stars ticks over and runs a little lumpy til about 3k then its like the other cylinder kicks in (although it must be running on both otherwise it wouldnt pull away) till 7k then there is just loads of throtle left but no revs left if you know what i mean.

at 7k when you wind the throtle open further it just sound like loadsa air intake but no positive engine reponse. wont clear knocking down gears etc

plugs look ok in the centre rear pot has a slightly black outer ring. i guess this is the fist thing to change but wondered if anyone had any further pointers

How long since it was last running? If its been a while i would change the cam belts before i even started the thing.

Anyhow, our monster was running on one for a while (in the garage) and i only realised when i noticed that the exhaust pipe was stone cold!

Could the petrol have gone off and gummed things up?

I wouldn’t ride it until you get it in for a belt service.
Sounds like bad fuel but if a belt goes you’ll be looking for an engine.
Not a good idea to test ride a badly running Ducati hoping it will clear.
Standing not used they do not like.
If you don’t know what’s wrong find a man who dose before it turns in to a very expense mess.
