PC Remote Access

Afternoon All

Anyone out there use a program to remotely access their work PC? I currently use Hamachi to access files but need to see my Outlook so I guess a complete package where you see the desktop screen from elsewhere.

Hope that makes sense and would appreciate any recommendations.

Regards

Mark.

P.S. Can't wait for Sundays WSB...

Run the vnc server on the remote machine you want to access.

Run the vnc client on the machine you want to use to log into the remote machine.

Easy peasy!

if your using WinCXP it has remote access built in. All you need to do is turn it on and then download the client.

These links tell you how:
http://www.microsoft.com/windowsXp/u...moteintro.mspx
http://www.pcadvisor.co.uk/news/index.cfm?newsid=10208

If you use Linux that coms with something called PuTTy. Its also available for Windoze as well. We use this extensively at work to access remote machines running linux from a winXp machine.

Thanks John but running Vista. Tried TightVNC tonight and works well, if a bit slow.

Just use Remote Desktop that comes with Windows. You will need to configure your router or firewall to forward packets on port 3389 to the correct i/p address belonging to the pc you want to control.

You can change the settings, eg more compression = faster.

Why not just use SSH?

Or if you want a GUI, and using Gnome windows environment, Nautilus should work fine. Remote systems can be persistently mounted.

Not saying PuTTy is a bad tool (I use it when stuck with Windows), but Linux has other tools that don't require additional software. Although I appreciate your comment above was with regards to accessing a Linux box from a Windows machine.

You mean to say that none of you would recommend that flock of homing pigeons - even if you could train them to remember the keyboard?
