Exhaust Re-assembly

OK, I have got my system back from the polishers. I spent a good two hours yesterday trying to get it back on the bike. The Double collector pipe (??) connects well to the front cylinder pipe but not very well to the rear cylinder section. Tried tapping with a hammer but not much joy. When I finally got the double section bolted up, I was able to line the offside end can up correctly but the nearside can looks well out! I think it is being pushed wide by the original double pipe - rear cylinder joint. Has anyone got any tips for this? Should I be using exhaust joint paste to seal the joints? Any pointers will be mostly appreciated.

TIA
Jim.

Welcome to the joys of exhaust refitting, your in for a treat.

If you do a search you will see this has been flogged a few times already but from what you are saying the rear header pipe might be out of line and forcing the connector pipe to be slightly rotated.

Take all the coinnector springs off and try to twist the header til the connector goes on easier and then try and fit it all together again on the bike and refit the springs.

Use the search engine at the top of this page and you will find loads under 'exhaust' and also if you look in the old message board accessed from the home page there is stuff on there too.

Good luck mate and get plenty of plasters for skinned knuckles

clean and polish where everything connects those sponge sanders from b&q are ideal (fine grade) and chuck loads of copaslip on all the joining parts you shouldn't need exhaust paste
