Chain & Sprocket

Can anyone give me any advice on new chain and sprockets for the 748r (and size would be good - yes I know I am a girl)

How easy is it to change and what specialist tools will I need?

I have on my previous 748r fitted new 14 front and a 38 rear. This gives a bit more lower gearing as the r is a bit of a bitch at low revs.

Why dont you fit a sprocket carrier to the rear whilst your at it? I would go for one that has the casting over the rear of the cush drives to stop them coming out and hitting the swing arm.

I would also go for, tart that i am, a 520 erv2 gold chain, or tsubaki similar.

So sprocket carrier, say a renthal one larger 38 tooth rear, the beauty with the carrier is you could go back down if you dont like it, and a better quality chain, perhaps even putting a couple of extra links in whilst your at it, to move your eccentric hub back to around the 5 o clock area from the nearside, hence lengthening the wheel base for more stability!

Leave 14 tooth on the front

40 or 42 on the rear for improved acceleration (needs a longer chain though 96 links I think)

For the cost, it may be worth considering a quick change carrier

Changing them over is easy enough, and I used the instructions here

I'd recommend reading it through first though, as the allen key needed to remove the cush rubbers isn't mentioned in the tool list (12mm IIRC)

Id just let him do it in all honesty mate! If you havnt got a comprehensive tool kit etc especially for the what if, when it happens!
See if he will let you help him, that way then you get the best of both worlds!

He could of course change the oil and filter whilst he's doing the carrier..............

i dont have the time to get it over to him is the main problem.

Really need to get it donw in next week or two and with work etc dont have time to get bike on the road, over to him, sorted and then back again and back into track stuff.

Also, apparently I need to learn how to look after my bike myself!!

I even cleaned it properly yesterday, under instruction of course

Don't forget you will need a decent chain rivetting tool.

ok, I know about the chain tool.

but why would I need the abba stand?

surely its just the rear that i need up.

I can get an assistant if required, so not a problem with that.

You can do the sprocket carrier with the rear on the ground.

1) chain off
2) front srocket off
3)put bike back on side stand and you can now undo and remove existing carrier!
4) fit shiny bits
