flywheel

I have a 2000 996 and was curious about having a light weight flywheel installed. What are the pros and cons. Whats the best brand to go with? Is it worth the $?

I fitted a lightened flywheel to my 748 last year.
The engine feels more responsive and does spin up quicker. The other "benefit" is that the engine braking improves to due to the lightened 'wheel allowing the engine to slow down quicker.
The only disadvantage can be lumpy/poor idling. Generally though with most of the wheels I've seen this wouldn't happen as you have to fit a really lightweight item to suffer this.
They generally go for about the £120 mark. Fitting takes a couple of hours.
IMO worth doing

As nelly says the main benefit of the lightweight flywheel is the engine spinning up quicker.
I have one fitted to my 998R.
The only problem i have with idling is when the engine is cold.
Standard flywheel weighs around 6 pounds, lightweight one weighs around 1 pound.
Your 996 has the three phase charging system.
One flywheel i would recommend is from a company called Nichols manufacturing.
Their website is -www.nicholsmfg.com.
Other than that i would rcommend fitting a slipper clutch as well because you will get more engine braking.
