Exhaust swap

Hello peeps,

I have the 45 mm carbon cans on my748/853 and I am wondering if there is going to be a benefit to fitting the 50mm link pipe and 50 mm end cans. I know that the 748R has this size system and a little info would be appreciated.

As my bike stands now, it has the FIM ultimap chip that is designed to run on the 853 modification to the engine. Am I going to end up with a hole in the midrange and lots of backfiring or is this exhaust change worth it?????

Cheers for the replies in advance.

DC.

my sp runs a full 50mm system and it runs fine,
don't know what the benefit would be of just doing the link pipe and end can, as the down pipes would still be 45mm
if its not to much money I would go for the complete system,
but as to how much better that would be, I haven't got a Scooby doo

Should give you a few bhp more (in the top 2-3K) and a deeper note

45/50 system will keep the midrange that you have, full 50 system will cause holes in the midrange but gain more in the top end again.

I guess it depends what you want.

I kept 45 all through after the rebuild as I like the torque as it is, and didn't want holes in it.

would be interested to see any dyno info you have on that compared to mine,
as it seams to have quite a smooth tork curve

mmmmmmmm,

Interesting. I am not really bothered to much about massive power gains, just wanted to know that the 45/50 mm system was not going to leave a massive hole in the midrange or something like that.

I suppose I am being a bling tart.

I am just trying to upgrade as I go, I was thinking that If I had the 45/50 mm system and then wanted to add a few more engine mods, it may pay off in the long run.

Anyhow,

Thanks for the replies.

DC.

There's some stuff on the Sigma site about this, and my info comes from the discussions I had with steve at MR about fitting a full 50mm system when mine went in for the SP conversion (I'm running Corse cam timing as well and had the offer of a very cheap Ti 50mm system).

I was advised against a full 50 system because I ride a lot on the road, so bottom / mid range is important and this would be affected with a full system, particularly bad below 5K. 45/50 for me only gained a marginal increase and wasn't worth the expense, so I bought mag wheels instead

45/50 was recommended for my setup , although DC since you're running an 853, you would probably be in a better position for running a full 50mm and will have no problems with a 45/50 system.

If you haven't seen it before look at www.moto-one.com.au/performance/ . They show lots of useful stuff in their reports. If you want mid-range stick with your current set-up, top-end go large. Seems only 'R' cams are imune to the mid- range hole. Probably because these cause an even bigger one of their own.
