Ah thank god sense at last.

Ive got a little end float on the centre hub, (when plates removed) new spring and torqued nut! Almost like the spring isnt strong enough, although i know thats not the case!

I guess at a push I might be able to do the same with mine, you have to remember the only thing holding the hub securely in place is the force of the spider spring

When I had the slipper moved from the 996 to the 998 on the weekend I needed a new spider spring because it had flattened out a bit.

I might be wrong but I've dropped the bike into first a coupe of times and locked the back wheel. I noticed that I had more than the usual play in the center hub. I think what might have happend was that the hub rode all the way up the ramp, further than was originally intended? I just bent the arms back on the spider spring and put it back together until I could get a new one. I still have it as a spare
