Low Fuel light

The low fuel light on my 1998 916 will not go off. I was curious what kind of mechanism it is like a float type or? Is this a common problem? Thanks for the help on my kickstand problems. It's a drag when you dread parking not for wanting to continue the ride, but because of a crazy f__king sidestand. Excellent forum you have here!!
Regards,
Kerry

Had the same problem some time ago after over filling the fuel tank. Booked the bike in for the problem but after riding around and emptying the tank the problem just went away. does this some like the same situation?
