Yep i fitted them over the standard mid section instead of inside, where the 45mm's went.

I haven't measured them but assume the 45mm open ones would go on the inside as standard, and mine are 50mm so just fit over the outside is a tight fit though, I bought them of a member so trust they 50mm.

No leaks or anything works fine

Just getting back on topic for a mo .....

I'm thinking that a range of chips that club members could try out - maybe a library of chips that could be circulated to try the best one and then, of course purchase the said chip to fit your bike might be a good idea. ( i can always dream) - can you copy Ultimap chips? - for backup purposes only you understand - and in the interest of perfect running Ducatis .

Try measuring both sets - would be good to know!

internal diameters of the pipes themselves - measure both ends (end can and connector side) of the cans and then both ends of the link pipe.

You can copy anything with the right tools, but....

The thing with the Ultimap is getting it setup in the first place, so although you could copy the EEPROM, you'd still need to get it set up.

probably got it round my neck but when nelly set up my 996 with single injector ultimap eprom i asked about fuel mixture i,e rich/lean . Yes an eprom swap will alter perameters including fuel but you can still ajust mixture yourself using a base setting .just because you put an eprom on to match a 45/50 termi it dont always mean your mixtures right .so you should still av it set up

The problem with the way you have done it Lee1980 is you might aswell have only fitted 45mm`s.

The reason for the link piece in 50mm`s is that the standard link pipe contains baffling that restrict the flow, removing this allows more power to be released from the engine.

On the subject of chips, a lot of aftermarket exhaust companies supply systems that will run on a standard bike without chip modification and without detramental damage to the motor
The reason for the chip is this helps release more power from the engine by altering the fuel mapping slightly, a cheaper option to a Powercommander.

Ducati`s run better with a 4-6% CO.

A lot of problems with rough running occur when dealers fit cans, chips etc but do not set the fuelling up correctly on idle.
This is not restricted to Ducati`s we have many bikes with Powercommander and Dynojet kits that run rough because the carbs and injectors have`nt been balanced, it is the same for Ducati`s, just putting cans on or replacing the chip is not really enough, the fuelling needs to be set up to the right CO and within 0.5% between the cylinders.

Hope this helps dispel any fears about not fitting chips with 45mm sytems.
