| 999s modest tweaks to make even more perfect Uh oh...the bug has well and truly been caught. As an outright newbie to Ducati, I've been pretty blown away by my 999s. A bike that is really living up to what I hoped. It started out with some nice tweaks so I'm just finishing the job really. What I thought I would do is stick a thread on here and semi-regularly post pics of the mods as they occur. So this is start point......(I'm also a total novice on Photobucket so am hoping this works)  We are looking at a 2005 999s: - vinyl sticker set - Termi's fitted with carbon cover - Rizoma rearsets, clutch plate, open cover and levers - alloy fluid reservoir covers - carbon exhaust guard - carbon hugger / chain guard Purchased already, to be fitted: - 749r tank (+3 litre) - carbon air intake tubes and covers - radiator guard - carbon fairing V and oil cooler guard - front sprocket cover Potentially: - lighter action clutch master cyclinder - Oberon per chance - carbon mud guard - carbon number plate hanger (need to lift those rear light more snug under exhaust) - dyno time to set it up Will take advice on: - slipper clutch more to come cheers Last edited by antonye : 27-Apr-2012 at 15:00.  |

Good point...I'm the newbie...what is the obsession with open clutches? I guess it mimics the racers, that run with no covers? In terms of this one, the half vs full makes no difference - it's strong enough to protect the clutch in a fall. But in a real crash it's the debris entering any open cover is going to cause the issue. So will ponder that one......swop covers before a track day mebbe? Back to the shopping. Couple of obvious bits acquired.....   Not having acquired much by way of carbon before, there is a certain pleasure in receiving these v. lightweight parcels. The bubblewrap weighs more than the bits  And a spot of metal bashing too....used the workshop at work to have a go at an oil cooler cover. Took the fairing V piece in and bent/bashed/snipped to shape myself. Had access to a lead shot bag and copper mallets etc. Sprayed up black. Haven't attached it yet so there may be some more tweaks to get the fit right. It's pretty snug so isn't going to move around.  Will have a go at a radiator guard at some point...got enough mesh to do one. Just need to think of a way to edge it and attach it. Tie wraps? |

| And last of the shopping for now....have bought a 749r tank and new carbon tank pad. Gains me a whole 3 litres..... Will be interested to see how it changes the look of the bike. It is tricky to see the difference from looking on the bench to looking at the bike. Looks like Ducati mod' was to cut the top off and raise by an inch or so. I'm told the bigger tank was due to WSS rules being tighter than WSB i.e. the WSB boys could change the tank, the WSS couldn't. Got a fresh fuel filter and O-ring to swop the fuel pump across. Inside of this tank is fresh and rust free too Don't imagine there are any tricky steps, but if any you experts have knowledge, do let me know.Oh and I'll get some of that clear vinyl to protect it....never applied any of that before...... Right - garage time needed. |
