have you looked at some of the deals you can get from parallel importers like DK or KJM ?...... i think in last weeks MCN a new 999Bip with ohlins forks for £7995 - bargain or even £7195??? i think for a 749 S - also check e-bay P&H are trying to flog cheap new ducatis.

What are P&H like? they do seem to be competative, in terms of cost.

I'll check MCN for an import, is there any difference with an import to a UK spec bike?

No knowledge of P&H or DK, but did by my 1999 900 SSie from KJM for £5995 at the time deliverd to my door - now about £4,195 (what a bargain!) they give you a 2 year warranty of their own - but you have to have them service it which for me was a non-starter due to location. i took it to daytona as they are ducati dealer - did a cr4p job on the first service so always had it serviced by independant specialists to my entire satisfaction - the bike was 100% reliable over 4 years several trackdays and 24.000 miles as far as i know Ducati make about 5 "markets" USA, canada, UK, EU and other(aus japan etc) you will get an EU one probably.

I don't if this is still what happens but, a bike from DK comes with 3 years warranty if they service it or you can take it elsewhere to have it serviced and get 2 years warranty.
So go to DK, buy a 999 bp complete with Ohlins forks and then take it to somewhere like Cornerspeed for services, and be a happy bunny

Right I have ridden both....And made a decision!!!!!
749S

I rode the 999 first....Oh my god, right hand twist and "thankyou very much"....whatever gear you chose and "thank you very much"....incredible!
It felt really powerfull, more so than I have had the plesure of experiencing. I won't lie I was ****ting myself.
Then on to the 749S...an hour in between as I needed to go to a different dealer.
I actually rode a standard Bip, eitherway this bike felt much more involving a ride, I could handle the power (relativiley speaking) a lot better and it felt smaller and easier to turn in etc (I know that it is only the back wheel that is bigger on the 999). Admittedly though there were occasions when the bike didn't pull as the 999 due to poor gear selection but that is down to my riding.

I made my descision based on:
Insurance...much more favourable on the 749
Looks...pure vanity but I like the look of the 749Smono and to get the offered 999 to have a mono seat would be out of budget.
Ridability.. I have only had my license for 6 months or so and both bikes supercede my ability, however the 749 will keep my eye in and make me think about gear selection and revs, whereas the 999 will perhaps encourage me to get a little lazy. I have no doubt that in time I'll be saying "why didn't I get the 999 as I need (read want) the power", but for now I think the 999 is too much of a bike for me and I need to ride the bike that is going to "compiment" my skill and not just terrify me.

Thanks for all your advice....you can gaurantee that I'll be along soon with more issues.

Nice one

The 749S is a nicely balanced bike. The 999 has the same chassis, but more power which it's been said doesn't suit the bike as well. From the rave reviews of the '05 999 I'm guessing they've changed the suspension internals or settings to suit the bigger motor better. I bet they used exactly the same previously.

I moved down from an RSV1000 to a 749S to enjoy my riding more. There's a greater satisfaction in thrashing a smaller engined bike!
