Ducati / Puma support for Design fasion show - London 20th Feb

An important event held in London during the city’s international Fashion Week. Young designers present a restyled motorcycle jacket. Three Ducati Monster bikes personalised.

DUCATI TOGETHER WITH PUMA FOR THE Central Saint Martins COLLEGE MA FASHION COURSE STUDENT GRANT

Bologna, 16 February 2009 – always attentive to new trends and new talents, Ducati enthusiastically accepted PUMA invitation to support the student grant of the prestigious Central St Martins College. At the Central Saint Martins MA Fashion Course fashion show (taking place on February 20th at London’s NaturalHistoryMuseum) students will have the chance to win a grant that would help to fund their studies and research.

Ducati and PUMA have joined up for this initiative, which in 2009 has the restyling of the motorcycle jacket as its study and research topic. An interesting choice and very much in line with current fashion trends which has allowed these two icons of the world of “lifestyle” to work closely together to support the 2009 student grants.

Ducati also donated three brand new Monster 696 bikes, without a shadow of a doubt the coolest and most emblematic of the Bologna-based manufacturer’s machines. Three students, guided by Professor Louise Wilson (Course Director), used the ideas incorporated in their theses to create three uniquely personalised bikes that will be sold at auction through PUMA® Creative’s website from March 2009. All money raised will be put back into the MA Fashion Course.

For the third consecutive year the students have been involved in the redesigning of accessories in the Puma collection (in previous years topics have been a collection of lifestyle scarves and athletics, tied in with the Beijing Olympic Games). Once again the student grant is a financial award, worth £14,000. With the award comes an important level of visibility for those jackets created as part of the competition. Puma will in fact produce the winning students’ jackets and show and distribute them in the “Puma Black Stores” and in selected fashion stores across the globe from August 2009.

Ducati has always been very attentive to new trends, to creativity, to design and to the recognition of new talents,” declared Gabriele Del Torchio, Ducati’s President and CEO. “Our key role in the “Central Saint Martins Bursary Award” proves the level of attention we pay to these values, linking our brand and our coolest product to another significant “lifestyle” icon that is Puma.”

“Our close partnership with the Central SaintMartinsCollege is of great importance to Puma and we highly value the creative force that regularly takes a new perspective on our key product initiatives” says Vice Chairman Melody Harris – Jensbach, “We are glad that Ducati, a long-time partner of ours, has decided to support our commitment”

The four winning designs will be seen on the catwalk during London Fashion Week, along with other pieces and accessories from the Puma/Ducati line and Evisu black denim range. The grant winners will be announced by Tyson Beckford and Puma Vice-President Melody Harris – Jensbach during the evening at the Natural History Museum.
