As for tightening the swing arm pivot, I doubt if it will help unless the 999 has tapered roller bearings or similar in the swing arm, usually normal ball races or needle roller type.
You could be getting a bit of play in both the swingarm pivot bearings and the rear wheel bearings or it could just be the tyre distorting as suggested.
I jsut had to replace the rear Rennsport on my 998 as the profile on the RHS had changed to much. The crown of the tyre is no longer in the centre of the tyre but is now offset to the left.

Do you need a larger rim to fit a 200 on the back?

I've just reverted to a 190 from 180 - the steering hasn't slowed as much as I feared (possibly because I'm improving slightly with practice) but I know it's more stable on high-speed sweepers and gassing it out of bends.

Result, IMHO.

Addendum - I always notice a great improvement in stability and turning speed when a new set of tyres is fitted.

kev,
going to get wheel/swingarm bearings checked when i have the wheels off on saturday, will know more when i try the new boots fully after my usual 5 mile tyre scrub-in procedure!
Loz,
i think your right about needing a bigger rim for 200 tyre, i've gone for a 190 for exactly for what you've found.
Aren't 200 section tyres standard fit on the ZX12??
m1keyp,
should be ok with a deep sump!

Chillo, I think you're right about the ZX12R.
Now you know what to swap your 999R for!
