Brake Radial Master

Are the Brembo radial master cylinders different model to model?.Seen one for sale but listed as Super Sport 750/900.
Would the bore/ratio for the above work ok on a 888.?
What bore/ratio is recommended.Do you have to change the brake lines to fit a radial.?

They do at least 6 different bore / lever ratio's.
16mm bore is for single caliper, 18/19mm for twin.
This may assist for starters to give you an idea what's what...

The cylinders aren't model specific.
There are two bore options though. 16mm for single disc and 19mm for twin discs.
The ratios are x16, x18 and x20. They affect lever travel and feel. 16 gives the most travel and feel where the 20 is like an on/off switch.
The 19 x 18 is the most popular.

It's not usually necessary to swap the lines, but you will need a brake switch/banjo bolt as the cylinder doesn't have the facility for it's own switch to be mounted.

I don't know if you're getting it off eBay, but be careful of eBay 'bargains' on Brembo radial master cylinders, you find people paying up to £190-200 for them when you can get a 19 x 18 one from Red Racing Parts for 230 Euros which is about £155 at current exhange rates.

I was going to buy one from Harris at the NEC last week, cos they were doing them for about the same price - until my mates convinced me that it would look out of place on an 888

Jools,

You shouldn't listen to your mates

The Brembo M/C is one of the best mods you can do for an 888.

Yeh but, no but, yeh but....

I was bidding on a set of matching clutch and brake master cylinders off a 998R at the time (including a clutch slave which my ST needs), but that bugga 851Neil beat me to 'em :P

Even the road tests at the time were complaining about brake fade, and mine certainly does but I'm led to believe that the cylinder from the 996/998 will be fine and dandy for what I need

Appreciate the words of wisdom.The one in the pic is being sold by Fylde Superbikes,just says for Ducati SuperSport 750/900,no mention of bore/ratio.Thinking that 750/900SS use twin discs,maybe work ok on 888.I,ll ask them if they know the spec.

Hi mate

I use a 19x18 which is perfect (good compromise on feel and used by many top level racers including neil hodgson!). Regardless of the description..fylde will be able to tell you which ones this is as it will be stamped into the unit.

Im about the fussiest blokes there is when it comes to mods to my 888 - it has to be true to the original design and the radial MC fits that bill IMO. Factor in the fact that the original MC is truly appalling (especially for track work) and I think, as Rob says, its one of the best investments you'll make for your bike.

16x20 was the reply from Fylde,so no good to me.Isnt 16x20 the norm for single disc,its listed as fitting Super Sport 750/900,werent they twin disc.
Now you blokes have them fitted so you know what works....but."The racing Brembo radial is 19mm,with the decrease in braking force balanced through softer pads with a higher coefficent of friction.For street use,such pads may not be suitable."
Standard 88-90 851-15mm,most 748/9..-15,16mm,748R-15mm,999-18mm.So if you were guided by above 19mm should result in scary brakes/strong fingers.
