I checked all the fuses and they all looked okay but on further inspection No 4 fuse for the instrument panel was faulty and fell apart when I removed it from the fuse holder.

Pleased you got it sorted, i should have said pull the fuses out to check them, i had the same problem some time back and pulling the fuse and putting it back sorted it, after that i always gave them a quick spray with electrical spray and put them back in, not had a problem since then, but still carry spare fuses
