748R - Winter Project

Hi,

What best to do in winter than do some work on your track bike.

First some history, my bike is a 748R MY’02, that i bought used. Is used mainly for trackdays and done also a endurance race last year.

On the engine part had the heads ported by Chris at CJS Racing.

This winter i want to do:

- Install 748RS inlet cams
- Set the cam timing to 101 centerline inlet and 102 centerline exhaust- Check the squish
- New belts
- Microtec ECU with 1098 dash
- Instaling the engine breather box
- Instaling rockers refurbished by Newman Cams

The start of the work

The heads are going to be cleaned and the valves lapped. The heads are going to be cleaned and the valves lapped. Chris work is perfect, i have some 748RS heads and the and this are miles in the quality of the porting.

Some tools that i got to do the work

Now I'm waiting for some parts to arrive so I can continue with the job.

748RS Cams

Some pictures from the RS cams.

They went to Newman Cams to ISF (Isotropic Superfinish), that’s why they have that odd finish.

I'm going to send also the exhaust cams and the piston pins.

I was checking yesterday the rockers for wear...

The heads have 8000 km from track abuse and fast road.

2 opener on the vertical head, right side, one on the exhaust other on the inlet. The others are great, you can see the marks but can't feel them with the nail.

The inlet half rings were like this...

The other rockers are like this...

Also took out the cylinders...

The piston look fine....

The crank is a work of art...

What do you guys think I should look for?
